Flying with cannabis

The federal government regulates all air travel in Canada.

You can possess up to 30g (or equivalent) of non-medical cannabis in Canada. This includes in airports and on airplanes.

However, Canadian laws do not apply in other countries. If your flight gets re-routed to another country, you may face severe penalties for possessing cannabis.

Travelling internationally

It is illegal to transport cannabis and products containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or cannabidiol (CBD) outside of Canada. It does not matter whether you’re leaving or entering Canada, or what the laws of your destination are.

Crossing the Canadian border with cannabis and products containing THC or CBD is illegal. To travel with medical cannabis, you must apply for an exemption from Health Canada

Synthetic cannabis warning

Travellers leaving Canada should be aware of unregulated synthetic products that may be advertised as cannabis, or as being a cannabis alternative. These products are popular in parts of the world that ban cannabis and may be dangerous to consume. For your safety, buy legal cannabis or don’t buy cannabis at all.
