Merritt Old Growth Management

Within the Thompson Okanagan Region, old-growth forest retention is managed by the identification of old growth management areas (OGMAs) to ensure that target amounts of old growth are retained throughout the landscape.

Old growth forest conservation is an important strategic objective when addressing sustainable management of the Crown land base. The Merritt timber supply area within the Thompson Okanagan Region, has non-legal, spatially identified OGMAs that meet the intent of legal targets under the Provincial Non-Spatial Old Growth Order.
