RoadSafetyBC Forms Payment Schedules

Enrolled physicians and ophthalmologists in B.C. are permitted to claim reimbursement through MSP for the completion and provision of driver's medical examination reports to beneficiaries enrolled with MSP. The RoadSafetyBC Forms Payment Schedule is the list of fees approved by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles for this service.

Physicians

Effective April 1, 2012, any physician specialty may claim reimbursement through MSP for the following RoadSafetyBC Driver’s Medical Examination Reports under the following fee items:

RoadSafetyBC Driver's Medical Examination Report (DMER) for any driver with a known or possible medical condition

$75.00

  Notes:
i. Not billable in addition to fee item 96221.
ii. This fee may only be claimed when specifically requested by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.
iii. Patient birth date is required on the claims submission.
iv. Patient driver's licence number is required on the claims submission. (Driver's licence number must be entered in the first 7 spaces of the note or comment field)v. A consultation, complete physical, office, or counselling visit may not be claimed in addition if the patient is seen for the same condition.vi. Repeat DMER is not payable to any practitioner within 3 months.

RoadSafetyBC Diabetic Driver Report - standalone (no DMER): Diabetic Driver Report for commercial drivers with diabetes (known medical condition)

  Notes
i. Not billable in addition to fee item 96220.
ii. This fee may only be claimed when specifically requested by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.iii. Patient birth date is required on the claims submission.
iii. Patient birth date is required on the claims submission.
iv. Patient driver's licence number is required on the claims submission. (Driver's licence number must be entered in the first seven spaces of the note or comment field)
v. A consultation, complete physical, office or counselling visit may not be claimed in addition if the patient is seen for the same condition.
vi. Only applicable to claims submitted under diagnostic code 250 (diabetes mellitus).

Ophthalmologists

Effective April 1, 2012, ophthalmologists may claim reimbursement through MSP for the following RoadSafetyBC Driver VFT and EFT tests under the following fee items:

RoadSafetyBC Visual Field Test (VFT) and Examination of Visual Functions (EVF) conducted by an ophthalmologist as part of the same examination/at the same time

  Notes:
i. Fee items 96227 or 96228 are not paid in addition.
ii. Only ophthalmologists registered and approved for visual fields testing with MSP may bill this fee code.
iii. This fee may only be claimed when specifically requested by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.
iv. Patient birth date is required on the claims submission.
v. Patient driver's licence number is required on the claims submission. (Driver's licence number must be entered in the first seven spaces of the note or comment field)
vi. MSP consultations, visits or eye exam fee items 02012, 02017, 02018, 02019, 02020, 02038, 02041, 02042 and 02043 are not paid in addition.
vii. Repeat VFT/EVF is not payable to any practitioner within 3 months.

RoadSafetyBC Examination of Visual Function (EVF) conducted by an ophthalmologist (does not include visual fields)

  Notes:
i. Not paid with fee item 96226.
ii. Fee item 96228 is included in 96227.
iii. Only ophthalmologists registered and approved for visual fields testing with MSP may bill for this fee code.
iv. This fee item may only be claimed when specifically requested by the Superintendent of Motor  Vehicles.
v. Patient birth date is required on the claims submission.
vi. Patient driver’s licence number is required on the claims submission. (Driver’s licence number must be entered in the first seven spaces of the note or comment field)
vii. MSP consultations, visits or eye exam fee items 02015, 02017, 02018, 02019, 02020 and 02038 are not paid in addition.
viii. Repeat VFT/EVF is not payable to any practitioner within 3 months.

i. Not paid with fee item 96226 or 96227.

iv. Patient driver’s licence number is required on the claims submission. (Driver’s licence number must be entered in the first seven spaces of the note or comment field)
v. MSP fee items 02041, 02042 and 2043 are not paid in addition.
vi. Repeat VFT/EVF is not payable to any practitioner within 3 months.
