The nominees for the 2023 Award of Excellence for Paving are:
Location: Vanalman Avenue to Vernon Avenue and Burnside Road to Douglas Avenue
Contract Amount: $7.3 million
Asphalt resurfacing on Highway 17, spanning from Vanalman Avenue to Vernon Avenue, covering a total of 13.4 Lane Kms. Additionally, resurfacing was undertaken on McKenzie Avenue, from Burnside Road to Douglas Avenue, encompassing 8.6 Lane Kms. OK Industries adeptly addressed issues raised by the District, successfully completing the project ahead of the deadline to avoid the September rush.
Given the high vehicle traffic on the Highway 17 stretch, crucial for connecting the city to the ferry port, meeting project parameters and ensuring timely delivery became imperative. Achieving these goals translated into delivering a project of excellent quality, offering commuters a smoother riding experience.

Contract Amount: $6.8 million
Dawson Construction Limited did an excellent job with the Highway 97 resurfacing project, achieving an impressive 98% of their potential End Product Specification bonuses and delivering a very smooth riding surface. Their use of 15% Recycled Asphalt Pavement not only met the highest standards but also created a smoother, sustainable road, redefining what's possible in road resurfacing. In total, 36,200 tons of asphalt mix were expertly placed on this project.
Dawson Construction Limited showed excellent project management skills and demonstrated a high level of cooperation during the fire season by efficiently supporting and managing traffic.
Their proactive approach and dedication were evident right from the start. They tackled on-site issues as they arose, delivering a resurfacing project well ahead of schedule. Timely submissions of quantities and strong attention to detail ensured a smooth project journey without any concerns from project partners.
