The nominees for the 2021 Award of Excellence for Community Service are:

Emil Anderson Group

Ski Club

Emil Anderson Maintenance and Emil Anderson Construction are part of the Emil Anderson Group, which provides contributions to its local communities. 

Emil Anderson Group provides direct and local contact for community service and funding nominations. The program focuses on: children and youth programs, community enhancement and support, education, development, and training and disease prevention and research

The programs it contributed to are: Chilliwack Bowls of Hope Society, Chilliwack Community Services, Chilliwack Hospice Society, Crane collapse victims in Kelowna, Deer Creek Habitat Restoration, Fraser Canyon Hospice Society, Fraser Valley Mountain Biking Association – Dilemma Trail Sponsor, Fresh Outlook Foundation, Kw’okw’echíwel Stl’áleqem (Dragon’s Back) trail in Hope, Hope Brigade Days, Hope Farmers Market, Hope Secondary School, Manning Park Ski Club, Okanagan Pacific Sports, Terrace Churches Food Bank and the Terrace Valhalla Festival.


Mainroad Lower Mainland Contracting LP

Mainroad Lower Mainland Contracting LP has supported Critter Care Wildlife Society since 2011. Critter Care Wildlife Society specializes in the treatment, care and release of sick, injured and orphaned native mammal species of British Columbia’s Lower Mainland.

Since 2011, Mainroad has supported the society to secure the food supply for the animals, develop better animal housing, strengthen enclosures to protect the animals and support the society in spreading awareness and education to the community on the importance of its work and human-caused impact on these animals. 

In 2020, Mainroad Lower Mainland Contracting LP supplied a shipping container to use as a laundry facility for Critter Care Wildlife Society’s operations. In 2021, Mainroad Lower Mainland Contracting LP modified the shipping container by installing spray insulation, installing additional doors, providing electrical lighting and outlets, and hiring a local graffiti artist that supports at-risk youth to paint the exterior of the container.

Mainroad Lower Mainland Contracting LP’s participation in this important initiative demonstrates its stewardship in the community and its value for the local ecosystem.


NorLand Limited

Hockey teams

NorLand developed the, Our Shared Purpose: Helping Build Enduring Communities, Together, program to support their communities through the following initiatives: supporting students through scholarships; co-op and employment opportunities; supporting the CKNW Kids’ Fund; sponsoring CCW and supporting Women in Construction with bursaries; participating in the BC Centre for Women in the Trades’ Be More Than A Bystander program; fundraising for the Dixon Transition Society; sponsoring the CFB Shilo Command Team Golf Tournament and Supporting Our Troops; cleaning up along River Road in Delta and employee neighborhoods; hosting diversity and inclusion events for employees; and supporting families through the NorLand Kids Club.


Yellowhead Road & Bridge (Nicola) Ltd

Assist wildfire crews

Yellowhead Road & Bridge (Nicola) Ltd assisted the town of Lytton through the forest fire in June 2021.  

Crews altered and evacuated residents and provided a portable fuel tank and tow truck to assist evacuees and emergency services. Crews also repaired broken firefighting equipment and staffed fuel pumps for the RCMP, firefighters and emergency services vehicles.

Yellowhead Road & Bridge (Nicola) Ltd set up a generator to power fuel pumps and purchased a trailer to house Lytton Ferry employees, which ensured the Lytton cable ferry continued to operate. It provided food and water for stranded animals, portable toilets for the public and accommodations and financial donations for individuals impacted by the fire.

Yellowhead Road & Bridge (Nicola) Ltd set up CMS boards and staffed traffic control checkpoints to provide information and keep highway users out of fire-risk areas.
