About the LFYA
Are you a young adult with experience in care?
The LFYA grant:
- Helps you and other young people with care experience access learning opportunities
- Provides a one-time $1,500 grant to eligible young adults
- Supports your flexibility and autonomy in decision-making (See Your learning, your choice)
If you qualify, you can apply for the grant or have a representative (your caregiver or social worker, for example) apply for you.
If you qualify
You're encouraged to use the grant towards a program, course, or activity in these areas:
- Education
- Employment
- Training
- Life-skills
Your learning, your choice
You get to choose the learning you take based on your interests and goals.

Before you apply, see if you qualify
To qualify, you must answer Yes (✔️) to all three questions:
1. Were you born on or after January 1, 2006?
No ❌

2. Are you at least 17 years old?
No ❌

3. Do you think you have at least 12 months of care in at least one legal status?
If you're unsure, don't worry. You can contact us and we'll check for you.
CFD and ICFS agency legal statuses include:
- Interim Custody Order (ICO) to the director
- Temporary Custody Order (TCO) to the director
- Continuing Custody Order (CCO) to the director
- Under the guardianship of a director as stated in the Infants Act
- Under the guardianship of the director of adoption as stated in the Adoption Act
- ICO with a person other than a parent
- TCO with person other than a parent
- Youth Agreement (YAG)
- Under guardianship of the director of adoption as stated in the Adoption Act
