Why should I recycle?

By recycling your used electronics, you divert waste from your local landfills and help the environment. You also reduce the need for raw materials to manufacture new products.

Return-It Electronics collects electronic waste for EPRA BC – a not-for-profit extended producer responsibility program set up by the major B.C. producers and retailers of electronics. Since its launch in 2007, the Return-It Electronics program has collected over 80 million kilograms of electronic waste.

You can return your electronic devices at Return-It Electronics collection sites. Find the one nearest you as well as maps, hours and contact information at Recycle My Electronics.

What happens to it?

Electronics collected in B.C. for recycling are sent to five primary approved recyclers in North America where they are broken down using various manual and mechanical processes and products such as batteries and mercury are removed. The remaining products are separated into their individual components for recovery.

Through a variety of refining and smelting processes, the materials reclaimed from end-of-life electronics are used as raw materials in the manufacturing of new products.
