B.C. Lake Stewardship and Monitoring Program

Last updated on September 18, 2023

The B.C. Lake Stewardship and Monitoring Program (BCLSMP) works with local Citizen Science volunteers to help understand a lake's current water quality and monitor how water quality changes over time.

The Program helps identify the current health of lakes regarding:

  • Nutrient loading
  • Preferred uses
  • The different forms of land development within the lake’s watershed

The program is a partnership between the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy and The BC Lake Stewardship Society (BCLSS).

Citizen Science is the voluntary participation of the public in scientific research. Through Citizen Science, you can contribute to monitoring and data collection programs to increase scientific knowledge about the world around us.

The B.C. Lake Stewardship and Monitoring Program relies on Citizen Science to help monitor the health of lakes around the province.
