About the B.C. Lake Stewardship and Monitoring Program

Last updated on May 31, 2022

The B.C. Lake Stewardship and Monitoring Program (BCLSMP), formerly the Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program, is a cooperative approach to ambient trend monitoring in lakes around the province.

Local Citizen Science volunteers play a major role in helping collect water quality information on lakes from across the province.

Volunteers participate in structured lake monitoring programs defined as a "Level of Study." The information collected in these studies provides valuable baseline and background information, as well as long-term changes that helps us examine and understand what is happening in our aquatic environment.
