How to apply for a BC Bus Pass

You can apply for a pass by contacting us:

  • Online (quickest option): Fill out the online request for service
  • Telephone: Toll free at 1-866-866-0800
    • If you have a Person ID (PID) and number (PIN) or Social Insurance Number (SIN), enter it and choose:
      • Option 3
      • Option 1
    • If you do not have a PIN, choose:

If your pass was lost or stolen, it can be replaced. Submit an online request for service or contact us. Fees may apply. Learn more about how to make a payment.

Information required for new applicants

If you are a new applicant, you need to provide these details:

  • SIN
  • Last name
  • First name
  • Date of birth
  • Phone number
  • How you prefer to be contacted
  • Your address

Applicants aged 65 or older who have lived in Canada less than 10 years

Seniors living in Canada for less than 10 years may need to submit additional documents. If necessary, we will send you a letter after receiving your application. It will include a document checklist of what you need to submit.

If you are married, you will need to submit these documents for you and your spouse.

Applicants aged 60 or older living on a First Nations reserve

Contact your local band office to apply for a bus pass if you are 60 years of age or older and:

  1. Live on a First Nation reserve
  2. Receive assistance from the band office

Cost of a bus pass

There is a $45 yearly cost for the pass. It is non-refundable. The pass will be valid from January 1 to December 31 of the calendar year.

When you apply near the end of the calendar year, let us know if you are applying for the current or upcoming year’s pass. After the second week of November, we will only issue you a pass for the upcoming year.

Processing times

Your pass should arrive within 15 business days after we process payment. Processing time depends on your payment method:

  • 2 to 3 business days for online banking
  • 5 business days for in-person banking
  • Up to 2 weeks by mail

For renewals, your pass will be reloaded once you have paid the fee.

If you are a new applicant requesting a pass for the new year, you will receive your pass in the end of December.

How to renew your bus pass

Your pass is reloaded annually. Do not discard your pass.

By the end of October, depending on your eligibility, you will receive a:

  • Renewal invoice
  • Denial letter if you are no longer eligible

Contact us if you:

  • Changed your address
  • Have not received your invoice by mid-November
    • Allow up to 15 business days for a reprinted invoice to arrive

Payment and activation

Once you have paid your invoice, your pass will be activated. Pay early when you receive your invoice so that it will be active by January 1.
