Do I qualify?
To qualify for the low income grant supplement for seniors you must:
- Meet the eligibility criteria for the home owner grant for seniors
- Own a property with an assessed or partitioned value over the grant threshold
- Have an adjusted net income or adjusted household net income of $32,000 or less (including your spouse's income, if applicable)
If you have an adjusted net income or adjusted household net income between $30,000 and $32,000, you may receive a reduced supplement amount.
If you’re the spouse or relative of a deceased owner who qualified for the low income grant supplement, you may be eligible for the supplement in the year of their death. To be eligible, you must:
- Have lived with the qualified owner in the house at the date of death
- Continue to live in the house at the time you apply for the supplement
The supplement amount
Most low income seniors who qualify and apply for the supplement receive a cheque for $845 ($1,045 in a northern and rural area).
The supplement amount is determined by two things:
- Your household net income, and
- The assessed value of your principal residence
The supplement amount will not exceed the amount you would have received if your principal residence qualified for the home owner grant.
