More about the Ministry of Energy and Climate Solutions

The Ministry of Energy and Climate Solutions calculates gas reference prices that are used in the royalty calculations for each producer and production month, including producer prices and posted minimum prices.   

The ministry is also responsible for setting the select price that is used in the gas royalty rate and the threshold prices for third-tier and heavy oil royalty rates. 

The ministry includes policy makers that are responsible for the:

British Columbia Energy Regulator

More about the BCER

The BCER is also responsible for:

  • Changes to Unique Well Identifiers
  • Verification of information about raw gas gathering lines. See Producer cost of service (PCOS) natural gas allowance
  • Approval of concurrent production schemes and commingling of production from different zones in a well
  • Applications for commercial storage schemes

The BCER is partially funded by industry through the BCER production levy that the Ministry of Finance collects and disburses monthly.
