Recreational Shellfish Reserves are sections of Crown land where the province of British Columbia has either excluded or limited commercial ventures, such as aquaculture, that would impact recreational harvesting opportunities.
In support of this, Fisheries and Oceans Canada have also implemented prohibitions on commercial wild harvesting at many of these locations. At a number of these Recreational Shellfish Reserves, signs have now been put in place which provide some details on the reserve, such as boundaries, species identification, contact information and any special concerns important to harvesters.
