Food safety, traceability and sustainability practices are the cornerstones of our seafood sector and have earned British Columbia an international reputation for safe, sustainable and high quality seafood products.
Seafood stewardship certifications
Seafood certifications build consumer confidence by identifying sustainably caught or produced products in the marketplace. B.C. fishers and aquaculture producers have gained greater market access and competitiveness by participating in a wide variety of stewardship certification programs.
Recreational Shellfish Reserves are sections of Crown land where the province of British Columbia has either excluded or limited commercial ventures, such as aquaculture, that would impact recreational harvesting opportunities.
