When renting in stratas, tenants and landlords must follow the Strata Property Act and regulations and the strata’s bylaws and rules.

In addition to the Strata Property Act and the strata corporation’s rules and bylaws, residential strata tenancies in British Columbia are also governed by the Residential Tenancy Act (RTA) and other legislation. General information for renters and landlords can be found on the provincial government’s rental housing website (residential tenancies).

Short-term rentals are not subject to legislation governing residential tenancies. However local governments and strata corporations may have bylaws which regulate, limit or ban short-term rentals. Learn more about short-term rental strata bylaws.
