The B.C. government is working with health authorities to build the hospitals, clinics, cancer centres and care homes in communities across the province, so you and your family can get the care you need closer to home.
Work has been completed or is underway to plan, build or upgrade 30 hospitals or health facilities, 11 long-term care centres, and 4 cancer centres. This is in addition to the hundreds of maintenance and renovation projects to keep health care facilities safe and welcoming.

Abbotsford – Long-term care home replacement
A new 200-bed long-term care home to replace the 109-bed Cottage Worthington Pavilion. The design will follow best practices for infection control and cultural sensitivity.

Burnaby Hospital redevelopment and BC Cancer Centre
This is a multi-phase project that will transform the hospital into a modernized medical and surgical health care campus. It will have 2 new patient care towers, a new cancer centre, expansion and renovations to existing buildings on campus.
Phase 1 includes an 83-bed pavilion with maternity, neonatal intensive care, mental health inpatient and medicine units. Expansions and renovations include a new surgery centre and an expanded emergency department.

Chilliwack – New long-term care home
A new five-story, 200-bed long-term care home near Chilliwack General Hospital, to replace the 90-bed Bradley Centre and add 110 new beds. The design will use new best practices for infection control and cultural sensitivity.

Delta – New long-term care home
A new 200-bed long-term care home to replace the 92-bed Mountain View Manor. The design will use new best practices for infection control and cultural sensitivity.

New Westminster – Royal Columbian Hospital redevelopment and renewal
The Royal Columbian Hospital redevelopment project is a multi-phase project that will increase the hospital’s capacity, introduce advanced medical technologies and improve the health care environment for patients, staff and medical staff.
A new 75-bed Mental Health and Substance Use Wellness Centre.
A new 348-bed acute-care tower for intensive care, cardiac intensive care, medical, maternity and surgical patients, and expanding the emergency department. Phase 3 includes upgrades to the existing Health Care Centre and Columbia Tower to support the beds and services added in Phase 2. Design of Phase 3 is underway.

Surrey – New Surrey hospital and BC Cancer Centre
A new facility with 168 hospital beds, an emergency department with 55 treatment spaces and surgical suite with 5 operating rooms and 4 procedure rooms. The new BC Cancer Centre will have a 50-room oncology ambulatory care unit, 54 chemo treatment spaces, room for 6 linear accelerators for radiation treatment, and more.

Surrey/White Rock – Peace Arch Hospital renewal
An expanded Emergency Department, new surgical suite and updated Medical Device Reprocessing department at Peace Arch Hospital are improving access to emergency and surgical services for the communities of White Rock and South Surrey.

Surrey Memorial Hospital new acute tower
The new tower is expected to add acute and specialized care capacity, such as medical, surgical, pediatric, perinatal, women's-health, and mental-health and stroke care.

Surrey Memorial Hospital renal hemodialysis building
The new stand-alone renal hemodialysis facility will feature state-of-the-art equipment and will add 21 new renal hemodialysis stations, bringing the total at Surrey Memorial Hospital to 60. It will also operate 7 days a week and will complement existing in-hospital renal units.

Cranbrook – Dr. F.W. Green Memorial Home (long-term care home) replacement

Kamloops Cancer Centre

Kamloops – Royal Inland Hospital new tower and renewal
A new 107-bed patient care tower including operating rooms, a mental health and substance use in-patient unit, child and adolescent mental health services, obstetrical services and neo-natal intensive care unit.
Renovations and expansion of the emergency department, pediatric unit and post-anesthetics recovery unit.

Kelowna – Cottonwoods Care Home (long-term care home)
A new four-storey long-term care home will be built on the current Cottonwoods Care Centre site. The new facility will have 234 beds with updated features and technology: 93 new beds and 141 replacement beds. When complete, the site will have a total of 314 beds.

Kelowna General Hospital new MRI machines
Installation of new 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine and replacement of existing 1.5T MRI machine, which will double the number of scans to 15,000 per year and shorten wait times for medical scans.

Trail – Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital redevelopment
A new emergency department and day surgery unit, a new ambulatory care wing, expanded pharmacy, renovated oncology department, modernized physiotherapy department and upgraded cast clinic.

Vernon Jubilee Hospital inpatient psychiatric unit
The new building will have 44 single-occupancy patient rooms, including a new four-bed psychiatric stabilization unit. The inpatient psychiatric unit will be integrated along with the community-based crisis and hospital services team.

Williams Lake – Cariboo Memorial Hospital redevelopment
An additional 25 beds for a new medical/surgical inpatient unit and a new mental health and substance use inpatient unit. It will also include expansions to ambulatory care, oncology, maternity and pharmacy units as well as a new emergency department.

Colwood – New Western Communities new long-term care home
A new 306-bed long-term care home in the Royal Bay area of Colwood. It will include a hospice, a specialized unit for younger people with brain injuries and an adult day program.

Duncan – Cowichan District Hospital replacement

Prince Rupert Regional Hospital emergency department redevelopment
A redeveloped emergency department to streamline and improve patient flow. It will include a larger triage and trauma area, a bigger patient assessment/treatment area, improved high acuity unit rooms, and better patient privacy.

Richmond Hospital redevelopment
Renovations to the Milan Ilich Pavilion and relocation of the cancer-care clinic as well as the psychiatric assessment unit.
A new 216-bed Yurkovich Family Pavilion with emergency department, pre- and post-surgical care, intensive care unit, medical imaging department, pharmacy and short-stay pediatrics.

Vancouver General Hospital operating rooms renewal
Construction of 16 new operating rooms, opening a new 40-bay perioperative care unit, clinical support and education spaces, to increase the number of surgeries performed and reduce the cancellation rate for scheduled cases.
Renovation of the second floor of the Jim Pattison Pavilion North to upgrade and expand the surgical suites. This includes 15 new operating rooms, a 38-bay perioperative care unit and required support areas. When complete, the hospital will have 32 new operating rooms built to modern standards.
