The nominees for the 2023 Award of Excellence for Construction Management and Supervision Services are:
Project: Highway 14 - Sooke - Woodhaven Road to Otter Point Road
Location: 10.7-kilometre segment of Highway 14 between Otter Point Road and Woodhaven Road in Sooke, B.C.
The project involved resurfacing nearly 11 kilometres of Highway 14 between Otter Point Road and Woodhaven Road, a primary access road for the Sooke - Port Renfrew area. It included paved shoulders, slow-moving-vehicle pullouts, geosynthetic reinforced soil repairs and enhanced drainage systems to minimize flooding on the road. Clearer sight lines improved safety at Tugwell Creek, where slides and rocks previously affected the road.
Thanks to Associated Engineering (B.C.) Ltd.’s direction, contractors undertook ongoing patrols and maintenance which allowed this section of road to remain open during the atmospheric river event of November 2021.
Project: Knife Creek Road - Coldspring Creek Bridge No. 10402 and Cave Road - Wiggins Creek Bridge No. 10403 Replacements
Location: 12 kilometres east of Highway 97 at 141 Mile House and 65 kilometres northeast of Williams Lake, respectively
This project replaced two temporary emergency structures that were put in place in 2020 following washouts of the existing culverts. Glacier Technical Services Ltd. was responsible for both the design and construction for the two sites. The completion of this project ensures that these locations will meet climate resiliency challenges and provide safe and reliable road infrastructure.
Glacier Technical Services Ltd. demonstrated exemplary service, innovation, communication and attention to detail throughout the project.
