Learn about best practices when accessing the liquor Special Event Permit application portal.

Internet browsers

Use the same internet browser while applying. Some browsers might not work well with the application portal.

  • If you begin your application and save it in one browser, and then log into a different browser to complete it, your application data may not be available
    • For example, if you start your application in Google Chrome and then go back to complete it in Microsoft Edge, your data may not be saved

Preferred device

It's easier to access the portal on a computer than on a mobile phone.

Do not clear your cache

Do not clear your internet browser cache during the application process or you may lose your data.

Serving It Right and Special Event Server certificates

If the application portal does not accept a Serving It Right or Special Event Server certificate number, leave the field blank and select 'no certificate'.

  • You still need to get the certificate and have it ready for inspection on the day of the event

Payments

If you receive an email notification with a broken payment link, log-in to the Special Event Permit application portal to complete your payment.

If the portal does not update the status of a an application after payment, do not re-apply or pay again.

Instead, email LCRBLiquor@gov.bc.ca, and a staff person can confirm that payment was received and manually change the application status.

Permit mistakes

If you made a mistake on a permit that has already been issued, you will need to apply for a new permit.

BCeID help desk

For help setting up your BCeID or BC Services Card, contact the BCeID Help Desk. LCRB staff cannot assist with setting up a BCeID.

  • Using BCeID instead of the Services Card app is a simpler option

Getting police approval

Each police area is responsible for managing pending approvals. If your event is coming up soon, contact the relevant police office to find out how much time it might take.

  • Call their non-emergency number and have your liquor Special Event Permit number ready
