Overtime breaks and meal allowances

Overtime breaks and meal allowances are earned as follows:

Break Period into overtime Duration Meal allowance
1

Worked more than 2.5 hours immediately before or after their scheduled daily hours

 30 minutes (paid) Meal provided by employer, or claim $17.49 meal allowance
2 4 hours after end of Break 1 30 minutes (paid) Meal provided by employer, or claim $17.49 meal allowance
3 3 hours after end of Break 2 30 minutes (paid) Meal provided by employer, or claim $17.49 meal allowance

 

The following exceptions apply to the above:

  • If working overtime while on travel status, claim either the overtime meal allowance or the travel allowance, not both
  • Community Services Nurses required to work overtime within 2 hours of the end of a regular work day will be given a meal break of not less than a half hour and be provided with a meal or $15.00
