WorkSafeBC (WSBC) consults with and educates employers and workers about safe work practices. It also enforces the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and the Workers Compensation Act.

In the event of work-related injuries or diseases, WSBC works with you to provide return-to-work rehabilitation, compensation, health care benefits and a range of other services.

WSBC is an independent provincial agency with three main mandates: compensation, prevention and insuring employers.

Compensation

Compensation is available for workers who have been injured or become ill on the job. Some of the ways WSBC compensates workers include:

  • Adjudicating illness and injury claims that arise out of and during employment
  • Paying wage loss benefits and health care costs, such as physiotherapy
  • Awarding permanent disability benefits and vocational rehabilitation

To report a workplace injury to WorkSafeBC, complete and submit a Form 6A

Prevention

WSBC helps prevent workplace injury by:

  • Creating safety regulations policy and guidelines
  • Enforcing the Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation
  • Educating workers and employers
  • Consulting with employers and stakeholders

Insuring employers

WSBC insurance is mandatory for all employers in B.C. This insurance lets workers access benefits if they are injured. WSBC collects premiums from all employers in B.C. based on their size, risk of the work and injury history. This money funds compensation to injured workers and injury prevention activities.
