Fire Prevention Week 2026 is October 4-10, and the theme is: “Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” This theme aims to educate people about everyday safe charging habits that can help reduce the risk of fires.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has created resources for fire departments to use in planning Fire Prevention Week events and activities in their communities, including:

• Toolkits with print and digital resources
• Safety tip sheets on rechargeable battery topics

Lithium-ion battery safety resources

• Battery recycling resources for fire departments and municipalities, and for consumers
• Rechargeable battery safety tips, resources, and research from the Fire Safety Research Institute
• Posters and factsheets about lithium-ion battery safety from Health Canada

Fire Prevention Week is an annual initiative focused on promoting fire and burn prevention. It provides a valuable opportunity to engage communities in conversations about fire and burn prevention, while also encouraging students to explore fire prevention topics.

Bringing the message of fire and burn prevention into schools and classrooms plays a vital role in saving lives and preventing the risk of painful injuries and lifelong suffering. The Office of the Fire Commissioner thanks our fire service and education partners for their continued dedication to sharing these life-saving messages.
