Wi-Fi at Rest Areas

Remote Wi-Fi installation at rest areas will provide free and reliable internet access to the public who travel along Highway 37 and Highway 37A.

These pilot projects will be implemented at Bell 1, Bob Quinn and North Burrage Brake Check rest areas.

Location

• Bell 1 Rest Area – 32 km north of Meziadin Junction
• Bob Quinn Rest Area – 132 km north of Meziadin Junction
• North Burrage Rest Area – 180 km north of Meziadin Junction

Status

• Installation of remote Wi‑Fi at the Bell 1, Bob Quinn and North Burrage Brake Check rest areas is expected to begin in 2026 and finish in 2027.

Project benefits

• Provide reliable internet access at no cost to the public
• Provide connectivity in areas with no cellular signal coverage or service, allowing travellers to contact family, roadside assistance or emergency services

• North Burrage Brake Check – Anticipated completion: Summer 2027

Project cost

The total program cost is estimated at $195 million. This includes a $120 million investment from the Province and up to $75 million from Natural Resources Canada under the First and Last Mile Fund (formerly the Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund).
