Passing Opportunities

Passing opportunities along the highway corridor will improve safety and traffic flow by allowing drivers to pass slow-moving vehicles safely.

These passing opportunities will be located near Hanna Hill, Echo Hill, Burrage Hill and the Iskut Airstrip.

Location

  • Hanna Hill Northbound – 4 km north of Meziadin Junction
  • Hanna Hill Southbound – 30 km north of Meziadin Junction
  • Echo Hill – 3 km south of Bob Quinn Lake Airport
  • Burrage Hill Northbound – 84 km south of Iskut
  • Burrage Hill Southbound – 70 km south of Iskut
  • Iskut Airstrip – 4 km north of Iskut

Status

  • Passing opportunities at Hanna Hill, Echo Hill, Burrage Hill and Iskut Airstrip are anticipated to be completed between 2026 and 2030

Project benefits

  • Provide opportunities for drivers to safely pass slow-moving vehicles 
  • Increase efficiency of travel along Highway 37 
  • Increase the width of the roadway making it easier for passing in winter conditions

Schedule

  • Projects will be completed between 2026 and 2030. Schedules will be updated as projects advance

Project cost

The total program cost is estimated at $195 million. This includes a $120 million investment from the Province and up to $75 million from Natural Resources Canada under the First and Last Mile Fund (formerly the Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund).
