Highway Widening

Highway widening will address narrow sections along the corridor. These improvements will increase safety and improve winter maintenance by providing a wider driving surface.

Three priority locations have been selected for highway widening, at Bell 1 North, Iskut North and Tatogga South.

Location

  • Bell 1 North – 32 km north of Meziadin Junction
  • Iskut North – 4 km north of Iskut
  • Tatogga South – 3 km south of Tatogga

Status

  • Highway widening at Bell 1 North, Iskut North and Tatogga South are anticipated to be completed between 2026 and 2030

Project benefits

  • Improve safety along the corridor by increasing highway width
  • Provide increased travel space especially during winter snow

Schedule

  • Projects will be completed between 2026 and 2030. Schedules will be updated as projects advance

Project cost

The total program cost is estimated at $195 million. This includes a $120 million investment from the Province and up to $75 million from Natural Resources Canada under the First and Last Mile Fund (formerly the Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund).
