The home owner grant threshold for 2026 is adjusted to $2.075 million. This new threshold ensures the same percentage of British Columbia homes are below the threshold compared to 2025.

Budget 2026 makes a minor change in the conditions of the property transfer tax purpose-built rental exemption. From January 2025 onward, the change allows some tenants to lease from the developer and move in before the entire building is completed.
The Transfer of a principal residence page has been updated to clarify eligibility requirements for the exemption for a transfer of a principal residence, or an interest in a principal residence, to a related individual.
Property transfer tax information for transfers of land beneficially owned by First Nations has been updated. Eligible payments of property transfer tax may qualify for refunds.
