Apply for an assistant angling guide licence

An assistant angling guide is licenced under the Wildlife Act

Eligibility

The following criteria must be met in order to proceed with an application for an assistant angling guide licence:

  • Must be nineteen (19) years of age or older
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (i.e. a landed immigrant)
  • An assistant angling guide licence is valid only while the holder of the licence carries a record, signed by an angling guide, that indicates that the angling guide employs the holder as an assistant angling guide
  • You attest to having a working knowledge of the Wildlife Act and its regulations and the Fisheries Act (Canada) and its regulations with respect to angling on the region where you intend to guide for fish

Costs

  • Assistant angling guide licence, including Habitat Conservation Trust Fund surcharge: $150

Fees are payable at the time of application. Applications will not be processed until the fee has been paid.

Fees calculated on the electronic fish and wildlife application may not be the complete fee. A permit clerk will contact you if late fees are owed or if other licence specific fees are outstanding.

If an application is being submitted by an Angling Guide on behalf of an assistant, a Consent for Angling Guide to Act as Agent for Assistant Angling Guide form must be completed and submitted along with the application.

In the online application:

  • You will have to attest to having a working knowledge of the Wildlife Act and its regulations and the Fisheries Act (Canada) and its regulations with respect to angling on the region where you intend to guide for fish
  • You will have to further attest that you have reviewed the following as they relate to angling: Wildlife Act sections 12 to 15, 24, 37, 49, 452 to 54, 56, 58, 61, 64, 67, 68, 70, 80 to 82, 85, 91 to 97, 100 and 106, Angling and Scientific Collection Regulation and the current version of the Freshwater Fishing Regulations Synopsis, specifically portions of the synopsis pertaining to the region where you intend to guide for fish

Your application will go through the following process before any decision is made:

  1. Receiving the application
    Your application will be reviewed to ensure that it is complete. Your payment and documents will be entered into the appropriate systems. When necessary, you will be contacted for more information. 

    An application will not be processed until all required information and application fee have been received.

  2. Decision making
    The target time frame for making a decision on your application is 30 days* after a complete application is received.
    *Processing time may be considerably longer if there is a required consultation process.

    A decision will be made on whether to issue a permit or not after a full review of your submission.

  3. Issuance of permit
    If your application is approved, the permit is issued and sent to you by FrontCounter BC. If your application is not approved, you will be notified.
