Current regulation

The Kamloops No Shooting or Hunting Area is described on Map C7 on page 35 of the 2022-2024 Hunting and Trapping Regulations Synopsis.

Proposed regulation

Modify the Kamloops No Shooting or Hunting Area to allow hunting east of Lafarge Bridge while maintaining shooting closure across entire area. This would allow hunting, using archery equipment only (no firearms), east of Lafarge Bridge.

Rationale

The intent of this change is to provide a regulation structure that provides hunter opportunity and allows private landowners with larger property parcels to allow hunting on their properties, while continuing to manage public safety risk associated with use firearms in the area. Hunting without firearms (i.e., with archery gear) east of Lafarge Bridge is not considered a risk to public safety. Given the residences in the area, the shooting closure needs to be maintained from a public safety perspective.
