Fontas community No Hunting Area

Rationale

Fontas is an Indian Reserve and remote community that has some year-round residents who rely heavily on wildlife for their sustenance needs. Generally, these residents hunt and harvest food within walking distance (5 km) of their village.

There are concerns related to  community members not being able to  meet their sustenance and cultural needs. To address this concern it is proposed to create a No Hunting closure around the vicinity of Fontas.

This closure is a small portion of available hunting area, and is anticipated to have minimal impact to licenced hunters.
