Rationale

Wild turkey populations have increased in abundance and expanded across the Kootenay Region over the past 3 decades. Turkeys also inhabit rural properties and communities where they come in conflict with landowners. Several regulation changes were recently implemented (increased bag limits, implementation of a December LEH and a private land GOS) in response to increasing turkey populations. An extension in the spring hunting season to May 25^th is proposed to provide additional hunting opportunity and help manage conflict turkeys on private land.
