Proposed regulation

Turkey            4-1 to 4-9, 4-14 to 4-40          Bearded           Apr 15 – May 25        1

Rationale

Wild turkey populations have increased in abundance and expanded across the Kootenay Region over the past 3 decades. Turkeys also inhabit rural properties and communities where they come in conflict with landowners. Several regulation changes were recently implemented (increased bag limits, implementation of a December LEH and a private land GOS) in response to increasing turkey populations. An extension in the spring hunting season to May 25th is proposed to provide additional hunting opportunity and help manage conflict turkeys on private land.
