Rationale
Historically the allocation of licenced harvest in 8-22 was lumped with 8-10 so that any hunter receiving a draw could hunt either Management Unit (MU). This proposed regulation change is to establish a limited entry hunt (LEH) for bull moose in MU 8-22 that is independent of 8-10. MU 8-22 was inventoried for the first time in 2019 and adjacent MUs (e.g., MU 8-10) indicate stable to increasing numbers of both moose and the number of bulls in the population. This proposed separation in the allocation of harvest would not increase the overall annual allowable harvest for licenced hunters in the MUs but rather spread the harvest more equitably between the two MUs, based on the actual estimated number of moose inventoried.
