How you can help

Many are looking for ways to offer support to people affected by wildfires.

Financial donations to trusted organizations are usually the most useful way to help during a wildfire emergency. They help organizations respond to immediate needs and support recovery.

Donate to organizations helping people across B.C.

Donate to Canadian Red Cross

Donations support immediate relief and longer-term recovery for people affected by B.C. wildfires. Funds may also help communities prepare for wildfires, reduce risk and coordinate emergency response.

You can also text BCFIRES to 20222 to donate $10.

Donate to United Way British Columbia

Donations support local organizations and community programs helping people during and after wildfires. Funds may support immediate needs and longer-term community recovery.

United Way BC does not usually provide cash payments directly to individuals.

Donate goods or services

Donations of physical goods are not usually needed during an active wildfire. Food, clothing and other goods can be difficult to sort, transport and manage during an active emergency.

Financial donations to trusted organizations are often the best way to help. Organizations can use them to respond quickly to changing needs. If an organization asks for goods or services, follow the instructions on its website.

Submit an offer of support

The Canadian Red Cross is gathering offers of support from individuals, businesses and organizations. This information will be shared with local authorities, First Nations and non-profit partners. If an offer is accepted, a Red Cross team member may contact you.

All offers are greatly appreciated. However, only accepted offers will be responded to. Decisions are based on identified needs, operational requirements, safety considerations and logistical capacity. Offers of used goods are not being accepted at this time. The submission of an offer does not guarantee that it will be accepted or deployed.

To offer goods, services or other resources, complete the online offer of support form:

 Avoid donation scams

Wildfire emergencies can lead to fraudulent donation requests. Protect your donation:

  • Use a trusted organization’s official website
  • Donate to well-established charities (such as the links above)
  • Ask canvassers for identification or printed information about the charity
  • Beware of high-pressure tactics
  • Take time to research the charity
