Emergency management training host communities

In-person courses are offered on an annual basis, with courses being equally allotted across our 6 regions, and balanced with online courses.

Apply to be a host community

A host community refers to any Indigenous community or local government. Applications for consideration in the following fiscal year (April to April) are open from the beginning of September to the middle of November.

Application criteria

Once applications are received, they are reviewed by the corresponding regional office and approved or denied based on criteria including:

  • Previous training provided
  • Community need
  • Limitations to access of online or virtual training options
  • Minimum attendance of 15 participants - you can invite a neighbor community to attend to reach this minimum
  • Maximum attendance of 24 participants
  • Number of requests received
  • Amount of in person training opportunities available per region

Applications that aren't approved are encouraged to apply again the following year.

Important dates

  • September to mid-October – application stage
  • End of December – regional offices select host communities
  • Mid-February – publish in-person training calendar and contacts host communities
  • April to April – in-person courses are delivered in approved communities

Submit an application

Applications are now closed.

The application form is only available in during the application period, usually between early September and mid-October.

Invitations are sent to Indigenous communities and local government contacts when the application window is open. A maximum of 2 courses may be requested per host community.

Host community responsibilities

The expectation of the host community is that they provide the following at their own cost:

  • Suitable training room with groups of tables for 4-6
  • LCD projector, screen and extension cord
  • TV with accessible HDMI input
  • Flipchart stands (2-4 ideal) with paper
  • Chairs and tables set up in pods of 4-5 students
  • Front table for the instructor and projector
  • Access to the training room 30 minutes before delivery.

Additionally, host communities are encouraged to open their courses to their surrounding area’s emergency personnel, keeping in mind that there are a maximum of 24 seats per course.
