Ways to Adopt in B.C.

Last updated on January 21, 2021

Children become available for adoption in different ways – each situation is unique. Some parents make an adoption plan for their child, while other children are placed into care by a court order.  Every effort is made to find an adoptive family who best meets the specific needs of a child and can provide them with a permanent secure and loving home.

Adopting from Foster Care

Adoption is about love and a lasting commitment to make a difference in a child's life. We are looking for families who can learn and grow with our kids so that they develop to their full potential.  Do you have what it takes to provide a loving, stable and supportive home for a child who needs extra support?

Infant Adoption

Most birth parents in B.C. planning for adoption work with licensed agencies. Birth parents can decide how involved they'd like to be in the adoption process – they can help choose the adoptive family and stay in contact after the adoption process is complete.

Adopt a Child from Another Country

A licensed adoption agency in B.C. will help with the extra planning needed to complete an inter-country adoption.

Adopt a Relative or Stepchild

In order to adopt a child related to you by blood, or to adopt your partner's child, you will need to apply to the court. It's a good idea to get legal advice on how to complete this kind of adoption.
