Archaeology Branch provides resources to help Indigenous and local governments, property owners and developers access archaeological information and protect sites under the Heritage Conservation Act.

Indigenous governments

Indigenous governments may access information systems administered by the branch, including the Informed Contributors Layer in the Remote Access to Archeological Data system. Read about the Ancestral Remains Policy review and archaeological site inventory.

Local governments

Local governments are encouraged to integrate archaeology into community planning and infrastructure projects.

Property owners and developers

Construction and other work on a property can destroy an archaeological site. Learn more about the steps to follow before work begins, how to manage impacts and what to consider when hiring an archaeologist.
