An Introduction to Karst in British Columbia - Online Training Module

These online lessons will provide you with a basic introduction to karst, karst features and the multiple values of karst within the greater environment. There is special emphasis on karst and the management of karst in British Columbia. 

Learning objective for Introduction to Karst

At the end of the Introduction to Karst course, you should be able to:

• Explain what karst is and how it forms
• Identify and classify examples of common karst features
• List well-known areas of karst in B.C. and around the world
• Describe some of the values associated with karst
• Explain why karst is sensitive and vulnerable to disturbance
• Describe some of the key events in the evolution of B.C.’s current karst management system
• List B.C.’s main karst guidance documents and key legislation for protecting and managing karst
• Describe the three categories of karst inventories in B.C. and their role in karst management
• Identify some of the government agencies in B.C. with responsibilities for managing karst resources
