Projects delivering forest nutrient management activities funded under the Forest Investment Program (FIP) must follow the program’s forest nutrient management standards and guidance, including the FIP Forest Nutrient Management Standards.
Forest nutrient management enhances tree growth, which increases carbon sequestration and supports climate change mitigation. These activities can also support objectives, such as accelerating the development of mature forest characteristics and addressing timber supply challenges.
The FIP Forest Nutrient Management Standards are applicable to all forest nutrient management activities funded under FIP.

The FIP Forest Nutrient Management Standards Addendum 1 – Hand Application guides the safe and effective hand application of forest nutrients, including requirements for worker safety, pre-operation requirements, and more.
The FIP Forest Nutrient Management Prioritization and Stand Selection Criteria guides the selection and prioritization of forest stands for nutrient management treatments. It ensures applications are targeted to areas with the highest potential for carbon sequestration, timber yield, and ecological benefit, while avoiding sites with legal obligations or planned harvesting.
The Forest Nutrient Management prescription template is available for partners delivering forest nutrient management work through FIP. It contains the required fields as indicated by FIP, as well as fields to supply other supplemental information.
