Vanderhoof Sustainable Resource Management Plan

The Vanderhoof Sustainable Resource Management Planning (SRMP) is a consolidated and coordinated approach to planning at the landscape level for specific values on Crown land in the Vanderhoof area.

Sustainable resource management plans are a tool for the B.C. government to implement strategic land use plans, identify economic opportunites and conserve environmental values. The goal of SRMPs to provide objectives that will be site specific, results-based and operationally relevant. The scale of SRMPs occurs at various scales from 1:10,000 to 1:100,000.

In the Vanderhoof LRMP area, there are sustainable resource management plans for:

Old Growth Forest and Biodiversity Management

Conserving old growth forest is an important component of the Vanderhoof LRMP and a critical element in the management of biodiversity at the landscape scale. The Vanderhoof LRMP provides direction to ensure the protection of old-growth forests into the future. Old growth forests in the Vanderhoof LRMP planning area is managed by the Prince George Timber Supply Area Biodiversity Order. 

Visual Management

The Vanderhoof LRMP provides guidance on the management of the visual landscape to ensure scenic quality is maintained through the designation of scenic areas and visual quality objectives. The Vanderhoof SRMP for visual management was a technical process that assessed the landscape visual sensitivity and determine appropriate level of visual alterations.

Access Management Plan Motorized & Non-Motorised Recreation 

The management of access in the Vanderhoof LRMP area is one of the most explicit and highly prescribed values in the general management direction and resource management zones sections. The focus of access management in the plan is to provide guidance on maintaining access to crown land in a way that balances social, economic and environmental values.

Agriculture Land Development

The Vanderhoof LRMP identifies agriculture and grazing as important socio-economic values with objectives to ensure agriculture capabilities are maintained in the long term. The Vanderhoof LRMP provides general management direction to map and designate areas for the specific use of agriculture expansion to minimize the conflict between agriculture and grazing with other resources uses. The Vanderhoof LRMP is complementary to the Vanderhoof Crown Land Plan (1984) and the Agriculture Land Reserve (ALR)]

The Vanderhoof Sustainable Resource Manage Plan – Agriculture Development Areas (ADAs) was a planning process within the Vanderhoof Crown Land Plan area to legally designate specific parcels of Crown land for agriculture development and settlements reserves area.
