The B.C. government is developing a Strategic Management Plan with First Nations, local governments, property owners, dock owners, conservation groups, recreation groups, and economic and tourist groups, expected to be completed in summer 2026. This plan will guide how private moorage applications in the Southern Gulf Islands are reviewed following the expiration of the s.10.1 prohibition.
Review of applications in queue is anticipated to begin in summer 2026, following completion of the Strategic Management Plan. All applications will be assessed based on the objectives and criteria set out in that plan.
Property owners who are considering applying for a dock are encouraged to wait until the Strategic Management Plan is finalized, as applications will be reviewed in accordance with the plan’s requirements.
The public will be invited to comment on the Strategic Management Plan before it is finalized. We anticipate public engagement to go live in June 2026 and this webpage will be updated with an announcement at that time. The Strategic Management Plan will be made publicly available once complete.
