Feed storage

Last updated on January 8, 2021

On-farm feed storage is an important component of most livestock operations. Because some feed storages can be subjected to high structural loads, it is important to engage with designers and equipment suppliers who are familiar with such structures.

As with all agricultural structures on the farm or ranch, it is good practice to plan the location, sizing and construction of the feed storage:

  • Integrate the feed storage within the overall farmstead plan
  • Consider locating the feed storage structure for easy, all-weather access
  • Choose a well drained site when planning the size of the structure with enough space for future expansion
