The B.C. Crop and Livestock Reporter Program is a volunteer initiative that connects farmers, ranchers, and agricultural professionals across the province. By reporting local crop and livestock conditions, volunteers help create a comprehensive view of agriculture in B.C.

What you'll do as a reporter

As a volunteer reporter, your role is simple but impactful:

  • Spend about five minutes each week completing a quick online survey
  • Use your phone or computer to provide updates
  • Share your own observations or gather insights from neighbours and clients

The survey covers topics such as:

  • Rainfall and topsoil moisture conditions
  • Crop seeding, growth, and harvest progress
  • Crop damage from weather or pests
  • Livestock feed, water supplies, and pasture conditions

Your insights ensure timely and accurate information is available for everyone involved in agriculture.

How reports are used

B.C. producers, organizations, and government use this information to stay informed about regional agricultural conditions.

This information is shared with stakeholders to support decision-making, raise awareness, and address the challenges and opportunities in agriculture.

The B.C. Crop and Livestock Reporter Program builds on decades of success from similar initiatives in Alberta and Saskatchewan:

  • Alberta crop reports: The Alberta government has delivered the Alberta Crop Reporting Program to clients since 1940
  • Saskatchewan crop reports: In Saskatchewan, there are currently over 200 volunteers spread across the province with many having contributed information for several decades
