On behalf of the B.C. government, Health Insurance BC (HIBC) administers medical coverage through the Medical Services Plan (MSP) and drug coverage through the PharmaCare and Fair PharmaCare programs.

Through a contact centre and document processing operation: 

  • HIBC handles over two million telephone calls annually.
  • HIBC processes over one million documents each year, including enrolment, premium assistance and account maintenance requests.

In addition, HIBC is responsible for the registration of all health care providers in the province, and payment of medical and pharmacy claims.

For Medical Services Plan questions, customer service representatives are available Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (except statutory holidays).

For questions about PharmaCare, customer service representatives are available Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., or Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (except statutory holidays).
