Health Insurance BC

On behalf of the B.C. government, Health Insurance BC (HIBC) administers medical coverage through the Medical Services Plan (MSP) and drug coverage through the PharmaCare and Fair PharmaCare programs.

Through a contact centre and document processing operation:

  • HIBC handles over two million telephone calls annually.
  • HIBC processes over one million documents each year, including enrolment, premium assistance and account maintenance requests.

In addition, HIBC is responsible for the registration of all health care providers in the province, and payment of medical and pharmacy claims.

Quarterly Reports

In 2005, HIBC was established to improve and modernize MSP and PharmaCare services to the public. Since that time, quarterly reports that monitor performance in eight key areas of public service delivery have been published.
