Francophone Affairs

B.C. Francophone Affairs supports provincial ministries to increase their capacity to provide information and services in French to B.C. residents.

The Francophone Affairs provides the following services:

• Supports the planning and delivery of French language government services
• Serves as a liaison between the government and French-speaking organizations in the province
• Provides funding opportunities to deliver programs or services in French
• Organizes the provincial celebration of B.C. Francophonie Day
• Supports B.C.’s participation in the Minister’s Council on the Canadian Francophonie

French language policy

As of April 1, 2024, British Columbia adopted a French language policy. The policy provides direction to incrementally increase ministry’s ability to serve French-speaking residents.

Implementation plan

The plan identifies priority sectors and initiatives that will support the implementation of the policy and the continued development of government services available in French. The plan covers the period from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2028.
