Investing for flood resilience

There are funding options currently available to help communities prevent and respond to floods, as well as recover after a disaster.

Mitigation helps communities reduce the risk of a natural disaster. Many areas of B.C. are at a high risk for wildfire, drought and flooding, and these risks are made worse by climate change. Mitigation efforts can save money compared to the cost of post-disaster recovery. 

Disaster mitigation programs

The Province of British Columbia provides funding options for Indigenous communities and local governments  for disaster mitigation, disaster response, and after a disaster may have happened. 

National Adaptation Strategy

The Government of Canada launched the National Adaptation Strategy alongside provincial, and Indigenous government representatives.

The Climate-Resilient Coastal Communities Program will provide funding to enable communities to coordinated actions that increase climate resilience in coastal regions.
