Transcripts & Credentials

A transcript is an official listing of course marks and credits received from a post-secondary institution.

A credential is the official document that indicates completion of a program or that a specific academic level has been reached - usually it's a certificate, diploma or degree.

In order to request a copy of a transcript or credential, contact your institution directly. 

Getting Credit

Transfer credit: Some course credits can be transferred from one institution to another. If the course credits transfer, it may be possible to use them toward obtaining a credential at another institution.

Before transferring to another program or institution, you’ll need to:

• Ensure you meet admission requirements
• Request transfer credit for courses taken at other institutions
• See if it's possible to transfer your student loan​

Credit for prior learning: A process that determines if skills and knowledge gained from life and work experience can be used for course credit. A prior learning assessment (PLA) test evaluates the level of learning a student demonstrates. If the student's knowledge level is equivalent to the course they’re seeking credit for, they may obtain a PLA credit.

All B.C. public post-secondary institutions offer PLA services, however not for every program. For further information regarding this process, contact your institution.

Dual credit programs: High school students can receive both secondary and post-secondary credit by taking college or university course. Students should check with school counsellors to inquire if this option is available in their school district. Here are a few resources to help:
