Last updated on September 18, 2024

During the 2023 wildfire season, several neighborhoods within the Regional District of Central Okanagan, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District and the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District experienced considerable structure losses.

What to expect

Employees of the B.C. Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) will be going to these areas periodically throughout the recovery process to assist in understanding recovery needs and support decision-making about the mobilization of provincial government resources or programs.

The information collected may include personal information about the location and degree of damage to structures in the area, and the progress of debris removal and rebuilding. Location information may include street address and/or geolocation coordinates. Recorded observations about damage, debris removal and rebuilding will include high level categorizations (e.g., destroyed/damaged; debris removal/rebuilding complete/underway/not started). Photographs may also be taken for use by the Province.

All information collected about private properties will capture only what can be observed from the street. EMCR employees will not enter private property.

This information is being collected under the authority of section 26 (c) and (e) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
