Highway 37 Corridor Planning Study

We are studying the long-term transportation needs of the communities and businesses that rely on Highway 37 and 37A corridors.

Highway 37 from Kitwanga to the Yukon Border and Highway 37A from Meziadin to Stewart are vital routes in northern B.C. These routes connect people and businesses with the transportation links, goods and services they need to live, work, recreate and prosper.

The study will:

  • Assess current and future highway performance
  • Identify opportunities to improve the operation, maintenance, and safety of these highway
  • Help identify and prioritize corridor improvements over the next 25 years

The study will collect and analyze data to support the safe, efficient, and environmentally sound movement of people and goods such as:

  • Vehicle volumes
  • Safety considerations
  • Wildlife collisions
  • Land use plans
  • Potential new developments
  • Multi-modal and pedestrian safety
  • Climate change and resiliency

Status

The study is currently ongoing.

Schedule

  • Expected to be complete by spring 2025
  • Report summarizing findings will be released later in the year

Public Consultation

Feedback from these groups will be an important part of the study:

  • Indigenous communities
  • Municipal representatives and technical staff from local governments
  • Commercial industry (including mining and exploration)
  • Residents of communities along the corridor

A public engagement opportunity was open from October 13 to November 29, 2023.
