How to repay your deferred property taxes

You can repay all or part of your tax deferment account:

Pre-authorized debit through eTaxBC

You can make a pre-authorized debit (PAD) payment using eTaxBC.

Log on to your eTaxBC account

Online through your bank or financial institution

Most banks and financial institutions offer online bill payment services for their clients. To make a payment using your bank or financial institution’s online bill payment service, you need to know:

  1. Payee name: BC - Stmt of Acct
  2. Your account number listed on the front of the payout letter (e.g. PTD-XXXX-XXXX)

If our payee name isn't listed, call your bank for assistance.

Service BC Centre

You can drop off your payment at a Service BC Centre.

Payments by cash, debit, certified cheque, trust cheque, bank draft, money order or personal cheque made payable to the Minister of Finance are accepted. Service BC staff can provide you with a receipt if you request one. Credit cards are not accepted.

Write your agreement number or account number on your payment so your account can be easily identified when your payment is processed. 

Your account number is shown on the payout letter you’ll receive from our office. The account number starts with "PTD" (e.g. PTD-XXXX-XXXX). If you can't find your account number, contact us.

Mail

To pay by mail, send a certified cheque, trust cheque, bank draft, money order or personal cheque made payable to the Minister of Finance. Write your agreement number or account number on your payment so your account can be easily identified when your payment is processed.

 Lawyer, notary or other party

Lawyers, notaries and other parties, such as a Power of Attorney, executor/executrix or trustee, can repay an agreement holder's loan balance on their behalf. This often happens when the home is being sold or refinanced.

To repay a loan on behalf of an agreement holder, the lawyer, notary or other party must first obtain a payout letter from us.

To obtain a payout letter, email TaxDeferment@gov.bc.ca using the following format with no attachments. Do not fax in your request.

  • Subject line:
    Tax Deferment Payout Request – PID (xxx-xxx-xxx) or MHR#, client's last name

  • Email content:
    1. Full name of the firm or individual requesting the payout letter
        Full address with postal code
        Phone number
    2. Full names of all owners on title
    3. Civic address of property
    4. We are acting on behalf of: (your client's full name)

A payout letter will be emailed back to you within two business days. Payout letters are processed in the order they are received. Do not send repeated requests as this does not process your letter faster.

Once you receive the payout letter, you can pay online through a bank or financial institution (see instructions on the letter), or at a Service BC Centre or by mail using guaranteed funds (bank draft, money order, certified cheque or a trust cheque) payable to the Minister of Finance. Reference "Property Tax Deferment" on the cheque and include your client's:

  • Full name
  • Account number (e.g. PTD-XXXX-XXXX)
Closing your tax deferment account

When you repay your tax deferment loan in full, your account with us will be closed.

Submit a new application to defer your taxes again. Administration fees may apply.
