MUs 7-36, 7-42, 7-43, 7-50, 7-51, 7-52, 7-54, and 7-57

Muskwa-Kechika Access Management Area: Restriction applies to vehicles other than aircraft in parts of these management units. For maps and details on approved routes and vehicle restrictions within the Muskwa-Kechika region, contact the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship office in Fort St. John and Ministry of Forests offices in Fort Nelson and Dawson Creek.

Please note there are several trails where travel is restricted to within 10 metres of the route and only vehicles under 750 kg are permitted. See Map H25.

Motor vehicle travel on the Sikanni River Trail within the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area is restricted to within 10 metres of route (vehicles under 750 kg only).

Proposed regulation:

Change the road and trail designation from the eastern border of the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area to the Sikanni Ranch to allow all motorized vehicles to use the road within 10 metres of the road right-of-way.

Suggested change proposal:

Motor vehicle travel on the Sikanni River Trail within the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area is restricted to within 10 metres of the route and to vehicles under 750 kg, except for the section of the road and trail from the eastern boundary of the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area and the Sikanni Ranch, where all motorized vehicles would be allowed to travel within 10 metres of the road right-of-way.

Rationale:

The road that provides access to the Sikanni River Ranch (private land) within the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area is currently restricted to vehicles less than 750 kg. Visitors and residents of the ranch require an exemption to use vehicles that exceed this limit. This  restriction has created logistical challenges, including issues with transporting supplies, supporting day-to-day operations, and maintaining the ranch. It is proposed to remove the vehicle weight restriction to allow all motor vehicles access to the ranch.
