Status: Proposed
Region: Region 5, Cariboo
Management unit (MU): 5-03
Regulation type: Motor Vehicle Restrictions
Species: Not applicable
Closing date: February 13, 2026 at 4:30 pm PT
Current regulation:
Hunting and Trapping Regulations Synopsis (PDF, 13MB) page 43.
Motor Vehicle Closed Areas (page 10): The operation of all motor vehicles is prohibited year-round in these areas unless otherwise indicated:
Proposed regulation:
Remove North Churn Creek Motor Vehicle Closed Area.
Rationale:
Currently there is a Wildlife Act motor vehicle closure, except on designated roads, overlapping the northern portion of the Churn Creek Protected Area.
BC Parks has authority to regulate access to parks and protected areas under the provincial Park Act. The current wording in the Hunting and Trapping Synopsis (page 43) implies that snowmobiles can be used throughout the protected area after December 1, although this is not consistent with the protected area plan.
To reduce confusion and ensure regulations align with the protected area plan, it is proposed to remove the Wildlife Act Motor Vehicle Closed Area and defer to BC Parks authority. Access restrictions within the protected area are not planned to change. This proposal is supported by BC Parks.
