Rationale:

The Range of Authorizations (RoA) is a lower and upper limit of authorizations, set in regulation, that the director of the Wildlife and Ecosystems Branch may issue for a specific LEH hunt.

This regulation change would allow the B.C. government to issue limited entry hunting authorizations to provide greater flexibility to resident hunter harvest opportunities. While there is no current plan to increasing caribou limited entry hunting opportunities in the Omineca region, early results from the first year of the new limited entry hunting seasons, including hunter success rates, suggest that there may be sustainable opportunities for a greater number of limited entry hunting authorizations.

In 2024, the first year of the 5-point bull hunt limited entry hunting hunt in MU 7-39, hunter success was 30% among participating hunters. No caribou were harvested in MUs 7-41, 7-37 or 7-40. Monitoring will continue.
